Helping Minnesota Families Find Stable Housing

The Bring It Home Rental Assistance Program (BIH), is a state funded program that helps low-income families pay their rent. The goal is simple: help families stay in safe, stable homes and reduce the risk of housing instability.

Who Can Apply?

BIH provides tenant-based rental assistance to eligible households who pay more than 30% of their annual income toward rent. While households of all sizes can apply, priority under the BIH Program will be given to households with children 18 and under whose income is under the extremely low limits for their family size.

After applying to the program through the Virginia HRA, you will be placed on the waiting list. When your name reaches the top, you will receive a notification in the mail with instructions to complete and return the eligibility application.

Once a family is determined eligible and funding is available, the VHRA issues a voucher. The BIH voucher is NOT portable and must be used within the Virginia HRA’s service area.

Once the applicant finds suitable housing and it passes an inspection, the VHRA enters into a contract with the property owner and the family signs the lease. The BIH program subsidy is paid to your landlord. You are responsible to pay your portion directly to your landlord.
